Hardware Killing Piracy Prevention
Friday, 16 December 2005 08:13
Many of you no doubt make legal backups of your games, but there are those among us who believe that in order to fight rising game prices they must "borrow" them. This piracy has caused game manufacturers to use different methods to protect their software. One such protection is called Starforce. However, Starforce has caused tonnes of problems and it to be avoided like the plague. It has actually killed hardware that cannot be recovered even if the game is removed and your find and use a Starforce driver removal tool. It's bad, bad, and bad.
Take a look over here for more info. For a quick list of games to avoid that use Starforce click the "Read More" link. Thanks to Nicao for the heads up."Reports about destroyed CD ROM devices, unstable or slower-running Windows systems after installing a video game (even after it was removed!), and corrupted drivers as a possible result of Starforce, have made many computer gamers wary of this copy protection technology. There are also many reports from customers that say that Starforce-protected games refuse to work at all with various DVD/CD drives and notebooks."
