LG GSA-H10N CD Benchmarks:

For all the CD Burning tests I used a 700mb WinRAR file. Below is the Summary of the CD Burning tests. I burned all the CD-R tests at 48x since the majority of CD-R Media is at least 48x rated. Below is a summary of the Burning Times. I have also included Nero Read Tests for each disc tested.

Something to note is the CD-RW Read tests, I tried two different CD-RW media types (Verbatim and Memorex), the Verbatim disc burned with no problems, however the Memorex disc would not burn properly for some reason and failed while burning. I have included the Read test for the disc that failed, however did not add it to the graph.

This was a Memorex 48x Black disc, which burned in 3:13. This is a little more expensive of disk than the others I have used for testing.

This was a Verbatim 32x CD-RW disc. The disc was able to get up to 32x in the read test.

This was a Ridata 52x CD-R Burned at 48x. These discs are rather inexpensive ($0.25-$0.35) each.

This was a Cursor 40x CD-R Disc burned at 48x. The read test shows pretty much the same quality as the other discs, even when burned faster than it was rated for.

I thought I would add this read test showing a Memorex 24x CD-RW disc. It was unable to complete a read test. I did not include this disc in my graph of times, but thought I'd add it anyways.

LG GSA-H10N Final Thoughts:

Well, this drive is pretty much what I was expecting it to be, it does everything well, which makes it hard to review. This is definately not the most expensive drive on the market, as its obviously aimed to the mainstream public. I could easily recommend this drive if your looking for a inexpensive do-it-all dvd burner.

Basically at the end of the day, this drive met my expectations. It seems that lately there really haven't been many exciting new technologies when it comes to DVD/CD Burners, and when I started this drive I was pretty sure there wasn't going to be anything that jumped out and surprised me. It really makes giving this drive a final score tough, I couldn't give it a perfect score just since it really didn't blow me away or anything, however it has very solid numbers and therefore scored quite high in the end.

The only real issue I had was with CD-RW testing, the drive would not burn a 24x Memorex Disc that I had chosen for the test. I tried a different brand of media and was able to complete the CD-RW test. Also another issue with Memorex media occured when testing DVD writing, I was unable to write a 16x disc at its rated speed and had to burn it at 12x instead. Its not a big deal, just something to note.

Pros:

  • Does everything Well
  • Low Price

Cons:

  • CD-RW Quality/Compatability
