Peformance
The performance testing of an LCD is becoming harder and harder to do. In the past year or two LCD's have reached the point where pretty much every brand on the market has a low enough refresh rate that you're not going to notice ghosting like early LCD's had, which was easily the biggest complaint that most people had about LCD's.
Performance - Text:
Viewsonic's company motto is "The Choice of Professionals", and the majority of professionals are going to be using this monitor mainly for text-based applications, so you'd expect the text performance of this monitor to be top notch. Well, if you were expecting that, you will not be disappointed.
Even on a 20 inch widescreen, the text quality is very nice, and everything looks nice and crisp. I really have no complaints when it comes to text quality, and this monitor would definitely be a great choice for business applications.
Performance - Video:
I threw on a couple videos to see how this model could handle it, and just as I suspected, it handled it admirably. Even with the fastest action movie, I was not able to detect any ghosting. The picture quality is also very nice, I have no complaints whatsoever.
Performance - Gaming:
Gaming is definitely one of the best ways to test a nice big display like this one, and we had a brand new 8800GTX to push this screen to the max. The first thing I tried on this monitor was gaming at our LANtabulous lan party, and quite frankly I was very happy with it. No ghosting was noticed, and with a video card like the 8800GTX providing high-quality images for it, it was a killer combination, and definitely had people stopping to see. Games like BF2142 really look nice on this monitor.
At the end of the day I had no complaints whatsoever with the gaming performance of this monitor.
Conclusion:
The Viewsonic VX2035wm is one nice monitor, and I'd have no problem whatsoever putting this on my desk for everyday use. It's got a great refresh rate (5 ms), and being a 20 inch widescreen, you've definitely got plenty of desktop area in windows, also this LCD is nice and bright, so no complaints in that department either. The most amazing thing is that this monitor is under $300.00 dollars CDN, which is amazing for what you get, and worth every penny.
The only things I can even point out as being minor flaws are the fact that this model does not feature a height-adjustable stand. Viewsonic has other models that do feature height-adjustable stands so if you'd like to have that feature you can move to another model. The only other complaint I had was that the buttons on the front of the monitor are a little tough to push, please realize that I'm being pretty picky in mentioning that, and it really says something about a monitor when that's the biggest flaw I can find.
At the end of the day, I can easily recommend this monitor, and can easily give this our "Top Pick" award, if you need a new LCD, you can't go wrong with this one, Viewsonic has hit yet another home run with the VX2035wm.
Pros:
- Fast 5ms response time
- 20" 16:10 LCD @ 1680x1050
- DVI & Analog Inputs
- Great Value (~$300.00 CDN)
Cons:
- The menu button are sometimes a little hard to push
- Would be nice if the stand was height adjustable

I'd like to thank Viewsonic for allowing us to review this monitor, as well as shipping it to us early so we could demo it at our LANtabulous event.
