Introduction:
When building a new system to take to a LAN, often one overlooked component is a headset. When gaming in a noisy environment, or when gaming late at night without disturbing your spouse, a headset is a vital component. There are many headsets on the market today and some offer features such as surround sound or vibration feedback. Today we are looking at a "plain Jane" headset from SteelSeries that makes up for its lack of gimmicks which a high quality product. Not all additional features are gimmicks by all means, but a good stereo headset is hard to beat if you've got a soundcard that can product some virtual surround effect. Let's take a look at the SteelSound 4H and see how it compares to the other headsets we've reviewed in the past.
Packaging:
Although packaging doesn't make a product sound better, it does showcase the product on the shelf and keep the product safe during shipping. The SteelSound 4H comes in a plastic blister package with a cardboard back. This means that you will be able to open the headset without during damage to yourself, but you won't be able to reseal the package.
The package looks pretty sharp and should get a fair bit of attention on the store shelf. While it's not as flashy as some, it makes up for it with a good view of most of the headset. The only part you can't see is the back edge - and it's not that exciting.
Not only does the 4H come in a form fitting package, it is also held in by a couple of twist-ties in order to keep in from rattling around. The packaging and presentation is very good.
