In the not too distant past, laptops ran much cooler than they do now.  Consumers were quite content for their mobile computer to be slower than their desktop computer.  People didn't care if they couldn't processes large amounts of data in a split second while on the road.  Times have changed.  Today we expect lightning fast performance from a laptop, and the performance line between desktop and laptop PC becomes has all but merged.

Dual-core laptops have become the standard, and while they claim some major energy consumption improvements, they still get darn hot when under full load.  Today we are taking a look at a product from LapWorks that helps provide better cooling for your portable PC while you're on the road, at home, or even at the office.  We've got the LapWorks Attaché on our bench and will find out if this new active cooled product from LapWorks has what it takes to put out the fire of a Core 2 Duo laptop.

First Look at the Attaché:

We received our Attaché about a week after Mr. Moody contacted us regarding the product.  The Attaché and the Envoy are LapWorks latest products and the first of their actively cooled products.  The Envoy is essentially the Attaché, but with a plastic deck instead of the nice brushed aluminum deck that we received.

Full Profile

At first glance, the Attaché looks very much like every other aluminum laptop stand on the market today.  There are a few differences though that we'll cover as we keep on looking at this unit.  One thing you'll notice right away about the unit in the pictures below is the concave aluminum deck.  This helps provide some breathing room for the laptop and immediately introduces more airspace and better ventilation to the bottom of your laptop - even with the fans of the Attaché turned off.  This should provide a greater measure of cooling without taking any battery power and with no noise.
