Introduction:

A couple days ago we took a look at the Zalman CNPS9700 NT (Which We Reviewed Here), which is a revised version of the CNPS9700 LED (Which We Reviewed Here). Today we are going to look at another Zalman revision, the CNPS8700 NT, which is a revision of the CNPS8700 LED (Which We Reviewed Here).

Zalman is one of the biggest names in the aftermarket cooling market, and they've released quite a few high-quality coolers in the past, so it will be interesting to see if Zalman can come out with another winner, on with the testing....

First Impressions:

My first impression was pretty simple; it sure looks like the CNPS8700 LED, except black instead of a copper color. Other than that the cooler is very similar, except that is includes a nice PWM-Controlled fan, which eliminates that old fan-mate controller that required you to manually turn your fan up or down. For most users a PWM fan is going to be a big advantage, since you can plug it in and let your motherboard do all the controlling for you, this also helps reduce noise thanks to your motherboard controlling how fast the fan runs, which helps keep the fan nice and quiet.

This CPU cooler is nice and slim, and should fit into most cases without any issues. Some other aftermarket fans can be pretty large, so it will be interesting to see how a smaller profile cooler can handle the heat.
