Every computer tech, enthusiast and tweaker has a customized bag of testing equipment, gadgets and tools that they take with them on service calls, to LAN Parties, or when the go visiting their families south of the border. Each bag has a bunch of different items and often includes a Philips #2 Screwdriver, an Anti-Static strap a multi-meter of some sort and a few other miscellaneous items. If one of these items is an Infrared Thermometer, I salute you. If not keep on reading and you'll find out if the ThermoHAWK 400L is a worthy addition to your bag of tricks or if it is better left on the shelf.
The ThermoHAWK 400L comes in a nice little blister package that shows everything that is included. In the package you get a single "AAA" battery for the LED Penlight as well as a pair of small batteries for the infrared thermometer. In a matter of seconds these can be installed and you are ready to roll.
The thermometer unscrews in the middle allowing the installation of batteries in each end. Each end can actually be operated individually. The top part with the LED Display is the IR Thermometer end and the other side is for the LED light. To protect the IR sensor there is a removable cap on the thermometer end, but there is limited protection for the LED light on the other end. The light is protected because is it recessed in the aluminum case.

There is a button on each half of the unit for its own respective function. The button on the lower half acts as a light switch and the button on the top acts as a switch to activate the thermometer. As you can see in the picture below on the right the LCD display shows the battery status as well as the temperature and measurement standard. Celsius and Fahrenheit are available and indicated in the bottom right of the display.

Features, Specifications & More:
The ThermoHAWK™ Series touchless, pen-sized and handheld gun thermometers allow you to instantly check the surface temperature of almost any object. The ThermoHAWK™ units contain a patent-pending thermopile sensor on a chip technology which provides unique advantages over the older pyrometer infrared sensors. This breakthrough technology is what allows the ThermoHAWK™ to be incredibly compact in size and does not require the units to be calibrated for years. The ThermoHAWK™ 200 and 400 Series' unique metal cylinder design is also able to prevent electromagnetic and electrostatic interferences during temperature measurement and eliminates the effect of ambient temperature changes to produce accurate temperature values.
