Introduction:

Today we've got a new cooler on the bench, the GELID Solutions Tranquillo CPU Cooler. The Tranquillo is a 4 heatpipe tower cooler, and comes from GELID Solutions "Silent" line of products. The Tranquillo is compatible with pretty much every recent CPU (including the new Intel i5 and i7 processors) so compatibility shouldn't be an issue.

This is the second cooler we've taken a look at from GELID, the first being the Silent Spirit CPU cooler (reviewed here). We have also taken a look at some thermal paste from GELID Solutions (reviewed here). From what we've seen so far from GELID Solutions it seems like they've got some very good products, let's move onto the next section and see if the Tranquillo CPU cooler can follow in the footsteps of GELID Solutions previous products.

First Impressions:

At first glance you'll see that the Tranquillo is somewhat similar to some other tower heatpipe coolers that are on the market such as the Thermolab Baram (full review here), the Noctua NH-U12P (full review here), the Thermaltake ISGC-300 (full review here), or even the OCZ Vendetta (full review here). It seems that pretty much every major cooling manufacturer has at least one model of CPU cooler that follows the same basic design as the GELID Solutions Tranquillo which makes the consumer's buying decision a bit tougher as sometimes it's hard to pick one cooler over another. With a ton of different options in the cooling market it's important for a company to set themselves apart from each other and we'll see if the Tranquillo is able to do this.

The Tranquillo CPU cooler features a GELID Solutions 120mm fan with Intelligent PWM control. The PWM feature allows the fan to spin faster as the temperature of the CPU rises and will spin slower when the temperature drops allowing for the quietest operation depending on CPU usage and temperature.

As you can see in the pictures, the 120mm fan is detachable from the heatsink, so if you're really picky you could replace the fan if you want. In our testing we found the included GELID Solutions 120mm PWM fan to be more than adequate, so replacement is by no means necessary.

As you probably already noticed in the pictures above and below, the Tranquillo features 4 heatpipes to help keep your CPU cool. This is a pretty standard design and seems to be very efficient.

In the picture below (right) you will see that the Tranquillo comes with a ton of mounting hardware that will allow you to mount this cooler on pretty much any recent AMD or Intel CPU. They also included a small tube of GELID Solutions GC-2 thermal paste (read our review of it over here). You also get a sticker for you case so you can tell the world that you've got the Tranquillo in your case.
