Vantage A.L.C. CPU Cooler Final Thoughts:

When we reviewed the ECO from CoolIT a few months ago we were very happy with the overall performance, the same is also true with the Vantage. While the Vantage is more expensive than the ECO (Vantage can be found online for ~$99.99 and the ECO ~$69.99 at time of publishing) but the Vantage also offers a bunch more features. The built-in LCD panel and controls make the Vantage pretty unique and give it a "Wow" factor that is really unmatched by any other cooler available. Chances are good though if you don't have a window in your case you probably would be more interested in the ECO as the performance isn't that much better (not to justify the extra ~$30 bucks MSRP just for performance).

The controls that are built into the heatsink are pretty handy to be able to quickly adjust your temperature (and noise) settings, however just remember that anytime you want to change your settings you'll have to remove the side panel from your case to do so. This might be a bit of an issue if the noise between the three settings (extreme, performance and quiet) were much different, but we found in our testing that even at "Extreme" the noise level was much quieter than other system noise and chances are good I'd leave it set on "Extreme" and leave it on that setting forever.

The color changeable LCD screen is also a nice touch for someone who already has lights in their case and wants their cooler's colors to match. The ability to also turn the LCD display to "Off" is a nice touch as not everyone wants their computer to be glowing 24/7.

The only real issue with the Vantage that we found was the fact that it didn't fit so well in our case. We tried to install the Vantage in to the NZXT Phantom full tower case that we recently reviewed (our full review can be found here) and we ran into "space" issues with the radiator that would have required us to remove the top fan in the case in order to get the Vantage to fully fit properly. As we also recommended with the ECO, make sure you do a bit of measuring first to make sure that the radiator is going to fit in your case and you'll save yourself a bunch of hassle in the long run.

At the end of the day the Vantage is a pretty sweet cooler. The performance is right up there with the top coolers we've tested and the Vantage is able to achieve those numbers while still remaining nice and quiet. Thanks to the good performance and noise reduction the Vantage offers we've awarded the Vantage our "Editor's Choice - Gold" award.

Pros:

  • Good Performance
  • Simple Installation
  • No Maintenance Required
  • Customizable
  • Very Cool Design

Cons:

  • Might be a tight fit in some cases, be sure your case has room for the radiator!
