Samsung passes Nokia

Samsung has just passed Nokia as the world's largest phone manufacturer. Samsung was able to ship 93.5 Million phones in the first quarter of 2012 (which is mind boggling and up 36% over last year). Nokia still did pretty well by shipping 82.7 Million phones (Apple shipped 35.1 Million phones in the first quarter). Nokia has held the title as the world's largest phone manufacturer since 1998 until Samsung just recently dethroned them. Gizmodo has the story and more fun phone facts.

Samsung has just toppled Nokia's 14-year run as the world's biggest vendor of mobile phones in terms of shipments. In the first quarter of 2012 Samsung shipped 93.5 million handsets—36 per cent more than a year earlier—overtaking the Finnish phone giant who shipped a mere 82.7 million.
