Introduction:

Bluetooth headsets have changed the way we talk on the phone, the way we drive and how we do business.  Today, we are looking at a headset from a well-know audio company - Sennheiser, and are going to find out how this "Bluetooth business headset" performs.  Other than great looks, there are a few things that separate this business headset apart from others.  It has some pretty nice specifications, and we aim to find out if they stack up as good in the real world as they do on paper.

One thing that surprised me with the VMX 200 is the lack of A2DP support.  This allows for audio streaming.  While the specifications and quality of the VMX 200 might be pretty high, the feature list isn't.  It only supports HSP (Head Set Profile) and HFP (Hands Free Profile) and leave a lot of other things on the "non-professional" side of town.

Sennheiser doesn't have a lot of Bluetooth products but the ones they have are pretty high quality.  The VMX 200 is currently their flagship Bluetooth headset and it supports the latest Bluetooth 3.0+ EDR technology.

We've reviewed a lot of Bluetooth headsets in the past and in true BCCHardware.com fashion, we will have a microphone audio sample posted later in this review so you can hear for yourself just how the headset will sound.

Bundle & First Look:

The Sennheiser VMX 200 includes the typical standard bundle of goodies that we've come to expect with Bluetooth headsets.  In the bundle comes the standard three extra earbud tips, an ear-hook as well an a manual, quick install guide, micro-USB cable and a USB wall-charger.  The ear-hook feels a bit flimsy but with the new design of the earbud tips, most people won't have to use the ear-hook at all anyway.  

Once again, it's great to see that companies are migrating to standard micro-USB on many of their products.  This makes the VMX 200 simple to pack around as you likely already have an extra charging cable or two in your laptop bag.  This is great for traveling as it saves packing different cables/connectors for each device.

The pictures below show off the side of the VMX 200 that includes both microphones that work together for good noise-reduction on the microphone side of things.  There are simple volume controls (up/down) on the headset as well as the multifunction button that can be used to answer and end calls as well as power cycle the device.

As you can see, the overall design and finish of the Sennheiser VMX 200 is pretty nice.  I can't complain at all from the design standpoint so far.  On the next page we'll take a look at the features and specifications of the VMX 200 before we jump into testing and see if I can find anything worth complaining about there.
