So let's take look at the Apex keyboard and see what it can do.

In The Box

First Look:

Right out of the box the first thing you'll notice is how rather large the SteelSeries Apex Gaming keyboard is. The SteelSeries Apex is larger than most keyboards because of the four "layer" keys and the 10 macro keys to the left of the standard key layout. Also, there are ten raised macro keys above the function keys, and a larger than normal space bar and as well as a non-removable wrist rest.

Top Layout

The design of the SteelSeries Apex Gaming keyboard is smooth and sleek. It has a very low profile, sleek rounded edges as well as a high gloss area around the large font keys. The overall finish really gives this keyboard a unique and futuristic look.

Looking at the top of the Apex keyboard you'll see two conveniently placed integrated USB ports. This is a perfect location for a memory stick or any other device you want plug in without having to dig around the back of your PC for an unused USB port.

USB Ports

In between the two USB ports you'll notice the heavy duty, anti-tangle cable. The cable, although fairly thin, is double braided for added strength and it looks like it should last a long time. The 6.5 foot-long cable should be long enough to suit almost any desktop setup.

Turning over the keyboard to view the underside there is nothing too spectacular. You'll see four soft rubber, non-slip feet that you can squeeze and pull out. The Apex comes with only two slightly taller swappable feet, making height adjustment really easy but extremely limited.
