Android App Pick - Star Wars: Commander

Application: Star Wars: Commander

George Lucas really revolutionized the movie world when he introduced the world to Star Wars. This has been a very popular franchise for movies, LEGO, PC games, console games and now for Android devices as well. This game is a slight twist on an RTS and it gives you the ability to play against the computer through a campaign with different chapters, or you can join a squad and fight against either the Rebels or the Empire as you take your quest for glory to the internet.

Star Wars Commander

I've played through a few chapters in the game and the learning curve is pretty gentle. They start you off with "missions" that include mundane things such as building a command center. You are rewarded with resources and gold. These will be very useful later, so don't squander them. Once you've done a few of these really small missions, you are presented with a choice: join the empire or the rebels. I know how it's going to end, so I chose the rebels.

Unit Options

Unit Options

As I mentioned before, the unit options are limited at first and as you progress, you can upgrade and buy different types of defence, army and turret options with earned in-game gold. If you are impatient, you can also spend real money on bundles of "Treasure" that will allow you to speed up unit building, upgrades and more. If you're a patient guy (or gal) this game can be tons of fun and is free to play.

Each battle will require you to train different troops, transport them to battle and then deploy them in safe areas and co-ordinate the attack. This is actually very simple with the mechanic of the game and all you really have to worry about is training enough troops to fit on the transport, click safe areas of the map to deploy them, and strategically set them down where they will converge against the enemy. It's one of the easiest and most fun RTS-ish games I've played for a while.

May the Force be with you!
