Facebook Ditches BlackBerry

There is a growing trend that software companies are following. They are pulling out of the 3rd and 4th tier cell-phone platforms. There have been numerous companies ditching Windows Phone as well as the BlackBerry platform. This spells nothing other that disaster and death for those platforms as people won't buy a device that doesn't have good app support. Farewell, BB.

When WhatsApp revealed its decision to drop BB, its announcement said Android, iOS and Windows Phone platforms account for 99.5 percent of smartphone sales. The company decided to leave BB, because it wanted to focus its efforts on developing the app for the platforms that sell the most. Its parent company likely has the same explanation for its departure.
