Introduction:
One thing I hear when I talk to people about technology and their wireless devices is that they wish they had better signal. Better signal not only gives you a boost when it comes to data performance and fewer dropped calls, better signal also gives you better battery life. When your device doesn't have to hunt for signal, it conserves a lot of battery. This is not the main selling feature of the EZ 4G Cellular Booster from SureCall, but it is a side benefit that is worth exploring as we continue.
About a month ago the SureCall EZ 4G showed up at BCCHardware and while I do have decent signal at the main office, it could always be better. I have decent signal because I am currently using a Uniden U60 kit that doesn't support 4G. Feature for feature, a Uniden kit will cost you the same money for a 2000 sq. ft. solution - which matches up nicely with the EZ 4G. As we review this kit, it will include some comparisons to performance that I currently get with the Uniden kit - as well as a control - with no booster installed at all. With that out of the way, let's jump into the details.
First Look:
The EZ 4G comes in an attractive box that houses everything you need to get the kit installed in your home or office. Although the specifications claim that it will cover up to 2000 sq. ft, it states on the box that you're going to see significant performance improvement in 1-2 rooms in the real world. If you put this in a big open area, you could get optimal coverage, but with all the interference of walls in the average home, it is not sold as a whole home solution.
Inside the box we find everything that we will need to get the unit up and running. It's packaged quite nicely and includes wire, large receiving antenna as well as a smaller desktop antenna to place in the rooms you want better coverage The two antennae are connected by 50 feet of coaxial cable and SureCall even includes cable clips to keep the cable nice and tidy in your house. Also included in the kit is a stand for the larger antenna, double-sided tape, screws and a power adapter. They include several detailed instruction cards and a setup guide to simplify the installation process.
