Fenix PD35 TAC LED Tactical Flashlight - Patriot Ed. |
Features, Specs and More |
It’s no secret that Fenix makes great lights and they have recently commissioned one for the United States of America and we are looking at the "Patriot" version today. This is an updated PD35 TAC and it is a 1000 lumen light that features a rear tail-cap, side button for mode selection and a paint-job that would make any American Patriot proud. As with many of their other lights, it runs off either a single 18650 or a pair of cold-resistant CR123 batteries. If you're not American, this flavor and window-dressing may not suit you, but the PD35 TAC is the same light underneath. We'll take a look at the light in more detail, but paying particular attention to the actual light - and not the paint.

First Look:
The PD35 is a 1000 lumen, 18650 or 2x CR123A flashlight that is IPX-8 rated for 2 meter submersion in water. It can withstand almost an infinite number of 1 meter drops onto whatever surface you choose and has five power output levels as well as a strobe mode. These are controlled by a rear tail-cap switch that can be used for momentary on or click-on, as well as a side button that selects the different output levels and switch between the outdoor and tactical modes.
As you can see below, there are a couple of different modes (Tactical & Outdoor) and different options for output levels for each. Outdoor mode has a lot more options that range from 8 lumens and a range of 17 meters, to 1000 lumens and a range of 200 meters. More on that in a bit.
The front of the box looks pretty standard for a Fenix light as does the rear. The only indication that things are a little different is that there is a stick on the back that says "Patriot". Once you open the package, you immediately see why.
Inside the package you get the PD35 light with bold Cerakote as well as a manual, warranty card, extra rear button cover, a pair of replacement O-rings, a lanyard and a case for your belt.
