Features, Specs and More

Features and Specifications:

The ultimate EDC/Tactical flashlight has been upgraded once again! For many, the Fenix PD35 is considered the best all-around flashlight. The upgraded features of the PD35 V3.0 make it even better than the previous versions, including a new SFT40 LED that allows for a maximum output of 1700 lumens using a rechargeable 18650 battery. Other features include a battery level indicator, five output levels plus a strobe mode, and a toothed strike bezel for self-defense. Another upgrade is the newly fitted de-convex lens and small-caliber reflector, increasing beam distance by almost 50%. Without a doubt, the Fenix PD35 V3.0 is one of the best flashlights of 2021.

The PD35 V3.0 is simple to operate. The tail-switch turns the unit on and off and can be partially pressed for a momentary on feature. Once the light is powered on, pressing the side button cycles through the output modes. A long press on the side button activates the strobe mode. To deactivate the strobe, a quick press returns you to whatever output mode you'd selected before you activated the strobe mode.

A couple of big things to note with the PD35 V3.0 is the beam distance is much better than previous versions. The LED claims the same lifespan of 50,000 hours, and is a bit more efficient than the previous versions. Pretty much the only downside to this bundle is also one of the benefits. The PD35 V3.0 comes with a micro-USB rechargeable battery. That's a bonus. The downside is that it's a 2600mAh battery where Fenix other 18650 batteries are up to 3500mAh. The difference in Watt hours is 9.36Wh versus the 12.6Wh of the standard rechargeable battery. While very handy, putting the charging circuitry in the 18650 takes up a bit of space that reduces the battery capacity.

Powered Up

Fenix has taken the trusty PD35 platform and beefed up it with the V3.0. A different Cree LED, lens and parabolic reflector allow greater output and runtime than previous generations. On the ECO side of things, the new 3.0 drops down to 5 lumens with a maximum runtime of 230 hours - up from the 140 hours of the original PD35. As is the case with many of the Fenix lights, the output levels are diverse enough to give you an option to meet your needs, while providing you hours of run-time. The grip, finish, controls and options will fit virtually every user in almost any scenario.

The fact is, it's hard not to like the PD35 V3.0. My only real complaint is the integrated charging of the battery that lowers its capacity. I own a couple of chargers for both 18650 and 21700 batteries, so built-in charging isn't required. I understand why they do it however, and for many users, this is a feature that could be a bit selling point.

I'd like to thank Fenix Store for sending this updated light our way to use and abuse.

If you're thinking of a gift for the man (or woman) in your life, this is a great option that is tough to pass on. It's a solid light that does pretty much everything right.
