Introduction:

Most of us use a mousepad at least four or more hours a day.  When it comes right down to it, there is no "perfect pad" for everyone.  That is the main reason there are so many pads available on the market today.  SteelSeries makes some pretty unique pads and they have products available that range from soft cloth pads to pads that are actually made out of metal.  The first SteelPad we looked at was the QcK - a soft cloth pad.   Today, things are firming up a bit as we look at the SteelPad S&S.  Although there is no perfect pad for everyone, you should keep on reading and find out if this is the perfect pad for you.

About SteelSeries:

SteelSeries is all about gaming. Our mission is to create performance enhancing gaming gear, created for and by leading professional gamers. We continuously strive to better ourselves, and work with leading professional gamers from 3 different continents to create our products.

Our staff is distributed throughout the world, working from offices in Europe, North America and Asia.

The SteelSeries headquarters are located in Europe (Copenhagen, Denmark), and host the primary office facilities for the company. The headquarters handle all planning, production and partner coordination.

For logistical reasons we also have sales offices in Asia (Taipei, Taiwan) and USA (Los Angeles, California). From Taipei we can reach the entire Asian market, as well as New Zealand and Australia. From Los Angeles we can reach North America, Canada and South America. All manufacturing is done by sub-suppliers from Europe and Asia, and then delivered to one of our warehouses for final processing.

First Impressions:

SteelSeries always has a nice presentation with their products.  They package them very well and the SteelPad S&S arrived in great shape.  When SteelSeries contacted me about reviewing the S&S, I agreed and didn't know if I was going to be receiving the full S&S or the S&S Solo.  The S&S comes with a nice nylon carrying bag, while the S&S Solo just ships with the pad.

Right off the bat, I was impressed with the quality of the S&S.  Not only is it a very thin, slick-looking pad, it comes protected in its own carrying bad.  Those of you that attend LAN parties can appreciate having a carrying bag for your pad.  Not only that, but the S&S bag comes with a zippered pocket that can actually fit your mouse.

In The Box:

Not only did we receive the SteelPad S&S from SteelSeries, they also shipped us the SteelGear Padsurfer kit.  This kit is a set of Teflon feet for your mouse that allows a smoother experience on the SteelPad S&S.  Below is a picture of everything that shipped with the S&S.

 In The Bag

The SteelPad S&S came with a set of Padsurfers, a product guide and a mini-catalog of other SteelSeries products.  This "bundle" is more than you get with most pads, but please keep in mind that the average SteelPad S&S doesn't list Padsurfers as part of the bundle.  For the sake of the review, we will put them on our mouse however.
