Flash storage has revolutionized the way we store, move and transfer data.  Flash memory has taken the world by storm and can be found in many of today’s electronic devices.  Everything from MP3 players, cell phones and even remote controls has some flash memory.  As the popularity of this memory increases, so does its capacity.  This popularity has lead to greater production and lower cost.  A few years ago, BCCHardware posted its first Flash Drive review with the PNY Technologies Attache’ drive, and at that time the 128MB version was pretty sweet.  Today, you can get flash drives in excess of 8GB for a little over $100, and I’ve seen 16GB flash drives available for sale.

Today we are taking a look at a nice 4GB flash drive from A-Data.  I received this product as an OEM sample and it did not have any retail packaging or capacity printed on it.  I didn’t know if it was a 1GB drive or a 8GB drive.  After I plugged it in, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was indeed a 4GB drive.

The A-Data MyFlash series is listed as a “Professional” series drive and offers a rated speed of up to 200x.  How fast is 200x Speed?  With flash media, 1x = 150kb/second, meaning 200x Flash = 30,000kp/second.  Using the standard (although not accurate) equation that 1000kb = 1MB, this drive should reach 30MB/sec transfer speeds.  No matter how you slice it, that’s a pretty fast drive.
