In The Box:
The Ideazon Fang comes in a fairly small box and includes everything you need to get up and gaming right away. They include a fairly current set of drivers as well as a warranty card and a quick install guide. The Fang also ships with a detachable wrist rest as you can see below.
Without the wrist rest, the Fang feels quite short and it not very comfortable to use. Having the rest detachable may be handy for transportation, but I don't see many people using it without it attached to the Fang. When attached, the rest feels quite sturdy and makes the Fang quite easy to use.
Closer Look:
The Fang is well-built and is designed for either right or left hand. They have "jump" buttons on both sides so no matter which had you use, the button will always be within easy reach of your thumb.
Above the directional keys are two main rows of buttons labeled 1 - 11. These are generally mapped to weapon choices in Shooter games, but can be customized very simply to anything you want. To the right and left of the directional keys are default "use", "reload" and "score" buttons that default to standard in-game functions.
As we move along down along the side of the Fang, we see two buttons (that are located on each side). The larger button has the same default action as the space bar, and while it is strategically positioned for your thumb, it isn't quite as natural as a spacebar. Instead of pressing down with your thumb, you have to press inward.
You can see in the picture above on the left, that the Fang has flip out feet that elevate the front of the gamepad in order to help provide the user with a more comfortable experience. I find that with the feet folded up and the gamepad sitting flat, that it caused a fair bit of pressure on my wrist. With the feet elevating the gamepad, this really helped make the experience more enjoyable.
On the next page, we'll take a look at the software and setup the Fang on our test rig. We'll try and do some gaming to get a feel for the gamepad and see what kind of a learning curve is required.
