Hades H1 Mouse - A Visual Tour:

The Hades H1 Gaming Mouse comes in a couple of colors - Black and Red/Gray.  We received the red and gray unit, which looks okay, but in my opinion the black unit looks much better.  In the pictures below, we'll take you around the mouse and make a few notes on its features as we go.  You can click on any of the thumbnails below to view a larger image.

This mouse is designed for 90% of us that use our right hands and has a pair of buttons on the left side for thumb use.  By default these are Forward / Back buttons for a web browser, but thanks to the software, you can map these to any combination you like.  You can even assign custom macros for a button press or a button release - but more on that later.

The mouse has the standard right-click, left-click and mouse wheel click features, but you'll notice a couple more buttons on the top of the mouse as well.  These buttons are to switch profiles, and to adjust mouse sensitivity (aka dpi) on the fly.

The bottom of this mouse looks strangely familiar to the Saitek GM3200 Laser mouse, but there are a few differences.  While there are removable weights in the bottom of the Hades H1, there are not as many choices with different gram weights.  Also there isn't a reversible cover with a different set of feet.  Personally, I like a mouse to be nimble, and once I saw that there were weights and that they could be removed, I promptly pulled them out to make the mouse light and agile for "twitch" gaming (eg. Instagib UT).

The scroll wheel has a nice textured finish and nice tactile feedback.  It isn't as stiff as some other mice I've tested, but it in no way free-wheels like a VX Revolution.  Overall response is good, and clicking the wheel is easy.

Even though a hardcore gamer will rarely look at a mouse, every company puts a lot of effort in the appearance of their products and wants to make them flashy enough to be noticed by everyone watching.  The Hades H1 holds true to that line of thinking as well.  What this mouse offers though is customization, as you'll see on the next page.  In the meantime, take a look at the pretty lights below.

The blue lights on the side indicate the mouse sensitivity, and the red led shows which profile is being used.  We'll get into that shortly, but first we have a comparison shot of this mouse next to the Saitek GM3200.

The Saitek GM3200 has a bit more bling, but these mice have the same shape, the same buttons, and are in fact manufactured by the same parent company.  I questioned Hades about this and they said that they have "fixed all the issues" of the Saitek mouse and made a good mouse - not a Saitek.  We'll see about that in a minute.
