Price: $29.95 MSRP
Introduction:
Electronics today are quite sensitive to bumps and jarring and the beautiful finish that we all know and love on the iPod is especially sensitive to scratches from dust and other objects. I love my 80GB iPod Classic and have recently picked up a 16GB iPod touch as well. I love the sleek finish and the slim design. I figured that as much as I pack it around I should protect this several hundred dollar investment. PowerSupport USA had contacted me prior to my purchase and asked if we'd be interested in checking out their Crystal Air Jacket for the iPod touch and strangely enough both the iPod touch and Crystal Air Jacket arrived in the mail on the same day.
There are many different cases and way to protect your iPod and while some offer tremendous protection against the shock of dropping your iPod, these are generally pretty bulky. Others do a great job on protecting your iPod for scratches with a full-body skin, but they don't do a lot in the way of protecting the body from bumps. The Crystal Air Jacket promises to address these issues in part. The package includes an "Ant Glare" screen protector as well as a "Crystal Film" screen protector in addition to the "Air Jacket" that fits on the main body of the iPod. We'll see how it all shakes down in a few minutes.
Before we get farther, I want to let you know that I tried to take a lot of pictures of the screen protectors from the Crystal Air Jacket, but because they are so think and transparent it's really hard to get a good image. We'll talk a bit more about the performance of these skins later on.
The Crystal Air Jacket has some pretty standard claims on the back of the package. They claim to protect from scratches, dust and impact while at the same time not getting in the way. They also claim this "Compliments iPod Touch Aesthetics" and that it adds no bulk or weight to the iPod Touch. They also make mention of the two different screen films that are included. It sounds pretty good, so let's take a look.
The package is rather drab and if this product was geared for retail distribution, I'd say they need to spruce it up a bit. For online distribution, packaging isn't as important. Consumers that have a flashy iPod generally like flashy - or at least bright and attractive packaging. Maybe the printer was having a sale on olive drab ink.
Inside the package we find a pair of screen protectors - one anti-glare, one regular - as well as the Air Jacket, some instructions and a rubber grommet for the bottom dock connector on your iPod. The feature I like the best about this kit is that it looks quite simple to install, unlike the BODYGUARDZ kit Fujitsu looked at recently. Also the rubber grommet is a nice addition as the connector can get full of dirt and fuzz if you keep the iPod Touch in your pocket.
