Introduction:

Over the past few months we've been able to take a look at a few of the newest motherboards from ASRock, and overall we've been very impressed with what we've seen. Today I am going to look at the P45R2000-WiFi motherboard, which is based on the Intel P45 Chipset. Now before I get too far, I'm going to mention that for most of the review I'm going to be comparing this board to the ASRock TurboTwins board (Based on the Intel X48 Chipset) that I reviewed a while back. There are quite a few similarities between the two boards, and it should be very interesting to see the performance differences between the two chipsets. In all my testing I've used the identical setup, so not only are we going to see how the P45R2000 board performs, we're going to be able to see how the chipsets perform against each other.

First Impressions:

Now just like the X48TurboTwins board that I reviewed from ASRock, the P45R2000 board also supports DDR2 and DDR3 (Not at the same time). This is a pretty cool feature to have, and might save you down the road from having to buy a new motherboard when you decide to go the DDR3 route.

This ASRock board has all the features that you might need, Crossfire, onboard RAID, onboard Gigabit LAN, onboard 7.1 HD Audio, and comes with a WiFi card. Most of the options are pretty standard, but the WiFi card is a nice touch that most board manufacturers do not include standard on their boards (the WiFi card is available on most boards from ASRock). These accessories are pretty much identical to the X48TurboTwins board.
