Bawls - Supercharged or Not?

Introduction:

Many of you that read BensCustomCases on a regular basis are likely computer enthusiasts, and even more likely spend a fair amount of time gaming it up at your computer. Bawls is a drink that is geared toward you. It is a high caffeine beverage that is making quite a impression on the gaming community. I've read some pretty impressive things about Bawls, but I wanted to see how much kick it has on a caffeine enthusiast.

For those of you who do not know me, I am an avid fan of the coffee bean. Breakfast slides down a lot better after a 12 cup pot of coffee. . . seriously. On an average day, I'll drink 6-7 mugs of coffee (12 8oz - 240ml cups) by 8:00am. I might have a couple cups of coffee in the afternoon, and maybe one or two in the evening. Some may think this excessive, but the coffee bean being a vegetable, I feel that this is probably as healthy as drinking V8.

Last week, I travelled down to Montanna with my family to visit the in-laws. I missed about half of my morning coffee routine, and was getting pretty tired by 2:00pm. I figured this was a good time to crack open a Bawls. . .

What exactly is Bawls?

We'll head on over and snag some info off of the Bawls Website:

  • BAWLS Guarana is a high caffeine soft drink made from the guarana berry. Guarana is a natural source of caffeine found in the Amazonian rainforest. (It tastes sort of like a Wild Cherry Clearly Canadian)
  • BAWLS Guarana has 80mg of caffeine per 12 oz.

A bottle of Bawls is 10 oz. You do the math on that, and there is roughly 67mg of caffeine per bottle.

Testing & Conclusion:

I was skeptical of the claims that Bawls made as caffeine doesn't seem to have as much of an effect on me. Caffeine is supposed to accelerate the pulse so before I drank the test beverage I checked my pulse - 54 bpm. Pretty normal for me when I'm just chilling. I drank one in about 10 minutes, and honestly felt more awake and alert in about another 10 minutes.

After about .5 hours, I checked my pulse - 56bpm. Not a whole lot of an increase from the 67mg of caffeine. In all honesty, I started feeling pretty tired again around 4:30pm. I was listening to some pretty upbeat music in the meantime. A little disappointing, as I hoped it would keep me fired up longer than that.

I thought that perhaps the monotony of driving was offsetting the caffeine high, so the next day at around 9:00pm I drank another bottle - fired up some Call of Duty and gamed it up for a couple of hours. At 11:15pm I went to bed and slept soundly until 7:30am the next morning. (That's sleeping in 1.5 hours for me).

All in all, I was very pleased with the taste of this Guarana beverage. It leaves no aftertaste, and is a nice change to regular carbonated pop (soda if you're American). However, it really doesn't kick it for me as far as the "high caffeine" goes. Perhaps if I drank 3 or more at a time it would give me that caffeine buzz we've know to come and love. If you're a hard-core coffee drinker, you may not notice the huge "stay awake" power of Bawls Guarana that others are experiencing. Just thought I'd let you all know.
