Introduction:

I love the big screen monitors. After I went from a 19" CRT to a 22" LCD I couldn't go back - anything else left a sour taste in my mouth. Today we are looking at a Samsung SyncMaster 2463uw 24" LCD. When I got this opportunity I was excited, 24" is the sweet spot for monitors nowadays, I wouldn't go higher, anything above a 24" is borderline on becoming a TV and that is for watching movies on. The SyncMaster 2463uw has quite an impressive list of specifications and features, from a nice full 1920x1200 resolution and a 20000:1 contrast ratio to a built in microphone and web cam, this monitor is loaded with everything.

First Thoughts:

I was pretty impressed with this monitor to start out with, with a really nice screen and a full load of features to boot this baby would come in handy for any person.

As I opened the box, and peered at what was inside, I realized that it contained a full set of accessories to get anyone up and going. Both a VGA and a DVI cable were included, which is rare in a monitor, usually they contain one or the other, but only a small percentage contain both. There was a fat USB cable, for powering the USB hub on the monitor, as well as a software CD and manual. The monitor does not, however, include an HDMI cable, much to my disappointment, but since I bought the elite version of the XBIX360 I have one readily available.

There is nothing really special, or unique about this LCD, it is pretty impressive, it has nice features but in the end it looks like any other monitor, at least when it isn't turned on. The standard base is pretty common, the touch buttons are becoming a standard feature nowadays, and they were really cool and still are, however, it is really hard to have a touch screen display when the front panel keeps falling off! Yes, you heard me right the first time, I woke up the day after it came, and the front with the labels for buttons and menus was lying in front of it! I tried to put it back on, but it dropped off an hour later. Not a good testament to its durability.
