Introduction:
We've reviewed a few NZXT cases here at BCCHardware over the past few months and today we've got their latest in the "Classic" series. It is called the Gamma and it is a budget case that will only set you back around $50. Typically, you can't get much of a brand-name case for $50 so our goal is to find out just how good this case is and what kind of features you get for your money. NZXT is really concentrating on value products lately and they've released a few new cases for ~$60 that have some pretty decent features. We'll find out how the Gamma compares to their other recent offerings.
First Look & Accessories:
The Gamma case comes in a plain brown box - which is pretty typical of value cases as colored packaging cost more money. Inside the box is a pretty decent looking case however that may appear to gamers and people who want some good cooling options. Right off the bat I noticed that there is a lot of room for fans in this case - two extra fans in the top, two on the side, and one in the front. This should allow good airflow if you really need to good down your toasty gear.
The included accessories are nothing all that special, but NZXT provides you with HDD drive rails for tool-less drive installation and thumbscrews for 5.25" drive installation. Also included are the typcial stand-offs, motherboard screws and a quick install guide.
The one thing that I found quite interesting with the HDD rail is the fact that it uses a pair of silicon washers to help prevent HDD vibration from transferring to the drive rails and therefore the chassis. This is a good theory - except that the steel pins still contact the drive, the rails and therefore the chassis. The reality is that these rails will help reduce vibration transfer, but they don't eliminate it.
Now that we've covered a bit of this case on the outside, we'll take some of the case features and specifications before we take a closer look.
