Introduction:
Most of the stuff we review here at BCCHardware is directly related to computers. A few of our reviews center around other consumer electronics, but we don't review too many accessories such as flashlights. Today we are taking a break from the normal routine and taking a quick look at the Gorillatorch from Joby. Joby is the company that makes the infamous "Gorillapod" flexible tripod and they've adapted this idea for a handy light (torch) that will help shed light on your next project. Their torch is a little different from the average light. It uses a Cree LED Emitter that claims to offer 65 lumens of brightness. This may not sound like a lot and we'll get into that as we go along.
First Look:
The Joby Gorillatorch arrived in a box that looked like the Fedex man has tried to punch a whole through both sides. In fact the box was torn and a gaping hole was visible with the Joby package clearly visible. Thankfully, Joby has packaged the Gorillatorch is a durable clam-shell package that survived the best efforts of the Fedex man in his attempts to destroy it.
The Gorillatorch is a fair bit smaller than I expected, but it seems to be well built and features the famous "Gorilla" tripod that has made Joby famous. The small size of the torch enabled Joby to use a small and extremely flexible tripod that has nice rubber capped joints that provide extra grip. The feet are magnetic as well and this enables you to use it is places that you can't wrap the flexible legs around.
