Introduction:
In this day of personal gadgets, consumers often find themselves running short of battery power when they are away from the office. At times, you may even forget to bring your charging or synchronizing cable with you on the road. Scosche comes to the rescue with their flipSYNC cables that are easily remembered and handy to have with you at all times. They have a model for the iPod/iPhone as well as for other devices that use Mini-USB or Micro-USB.
First Look:
The flipSYNCs' arrived in their retail packaging inside a non-padded UPS envelop and didn't survive the journey. Thankfully, the actual product is a bit tougher and the seem to have survived just fine.

General Usage:
In order to test a cable that connects your device to your computer, you need to hook up the device to your computer with the cable. It sounds pretty simple and let me tell you... it is. The cables work just find and fit quite snugly in my Lenovo T410 laptop. I think that they are a little snug and wish that they would plug in and out a little easier. I've seen people tear apart their USB ports, and I wouldn't want that to happen to my machine. That being said, I've plugged them into other desktops and laptops without issues.
The iPhone/iPod version works very well and the cable is quite well insulated and should be quite durable. The Micro & Mini USB version features thinner cables in order to fit them into the housing and they feel a little flimsy to me. Also, the length is very minimal and if you have a large bunch of keys, you probably will have difficulty connecting the device to your laptop and phone with a jumble of keys attached as intended.
Final Thoughts:
In the end, I think $20 is too much for the flipSYNC. While it is a great idea and handy to have around, the short cables make using it a little unwieldy at times and the thin cables on the micro/mini USB version seem pretty fragile. That being said, I've used these for a couple of weeks and had no issue, but that is a far cry from the months of service that a consumer would hope to get out of these. If you could find this online for $10, it would be a much better buy and at $6.99 - a must buy. I can't help but feel that the short cable would often be a hindrance though.
Pros:
- Very portable and compact sync/charge cable
- Use on your keychain
- USB 2.0 speed = fast transfer
- Support popular devices (iPhone, iPod, HTC phones, Blackberry & more)
Cons:
- Very short cables are almost useless if you have a bunch of keys on the keychain
- Cable on the Micro/Mini USB one feels very flimsy
