Archos Android at CES 2011

Archos At CES 2011

We are all coming to love Tablets - even if we don't really love them or have a use for them and one company that is positioned to deal out some damage is Archos.  They have already established themselves in the mobile entertainment industry with their smaller Archos Media Players and now are able to move easily into the Tablet Market.  They didn't have a big booth at CES 2011, but they did have a lot of buzz going on around their booth.

Their big items this year are the 70 Tablet that features the Android OS and a nice resistive touch screen.  This unit comes in two main flavors/sizes.  It starts with an 8GB SSD version that will set you back around $250 - with a 250GB HDD version that is only about 1-2mm thicker than the SSD version.  Either of these are great choices if you want Tablet features without a huge device.

Both of these are currently running Android 2.2, but don't support Adobe Flash 10.1 at this time.  It is coming soon however and will likely be available in both the main Android Market as well as the Archos App Store.  This App Store is designed to fit well with the hardware inside Archos Tablets so you don't buy something that isn't fully supported.  Other Apps should work fine, but aren't "certified" for the Archos Platform.

For more details, please check out Archos and their Tablet selection.  It looks really promising - especially for the price - the 8GB versions of both of these are under $300.  If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post them in the forum at the "Comments" link below.
