Introduction:
Today we are looking at a nifty case from Thermaltake that combines a nice case with a great hard drive dock and doubles your pleasure and gives you a little something extra. The problem is for some users, the "little extra" costs a little extra and this may end up pushing the case out of reach of some people on a budget. It may not be for everyone, but the idea is pretty slick and the execution is not bad either. The only downside is that you end up losing a 5.25" bay and even though it looks like you have four available there are only actually three available. Before I spoil the rest of the review let's take a look at what you get.
First Impressions:
The Thermaltake V9 BlacX is a steel chassis with touches of plastic on the top and front and it is pretty stout. It comes with a very large 23cm fan on top for exhaust as well as a pair of 120mm fans that pull duty as both intake and exhaust fans. The styling on the left side is pretty nice with a partial window that shows just enough of the goodness inside to keep people interested. The right side has some large honey-comb ventilation areas as well. This is alright, but with more exhaust fans than intake fans, the case will pull in air through these areas and introduce dust into your system that would otherwise be caught in the intake filters.

The overall appearance of the V9 case is pretty clean and tidy. The front is pretty basic and has a "mesh" look that seems to work for many people. You can see the appearance of four 5.25" bays (only three of which are usable) as well as two external 3.5" bays for front I/O devices, card readers or even a floppy drive. The rear of the case is a little more interesting as it has a 120mm fan, and some snap-off PCI slot covers that aren't replaceable. I do like the bottom-mounted PSU idea that is becoming more popular, but the USB 3.0 pass-through cable is a little tacky in my opinion. I know that several companies are doing this in order to get USB 3.0 to the front of your PC, but the overall appearance looks a little weak. Once the USB 3.0 standard for motherboard headers gets standardized, this is one of the few ways to make it work.
