App Developers and Privacy
« on: January 14, 2013, 02:20:17 PM »
Privacy is a big deal.  Most people sadly don't take time to worry about it too much.  There are a lot of "virtual stalkers" that do everything from cyber-bullying to actually threatening and some of this is enabled through Applications that Developers use to access some private information.  A privacy act (COPPA) has been passed for app developers just recently.

The statute requires every app which collects data about California users (which, practically speaking, means every app) to conspicuously post a privacy policy disclosing what information is collected and how it will be used. Most people want to be safe in whatever Apps they download and they should be careful not to give more information than necessary.  As an App user and reviewer here at BCCHardware - especially for a girl - I always check what the app requires before downloading, making sure my personal settings such as location and phone number usage is kept to myself.
