We're back and bringing you another piece of illumination from Fenix. This is the E12 V2.0 light that is all about your Every Day Carry. If you want a great light that will work day in and day out with a standard power option, make sure you check out the following evaluation as we take this for a spin and share our thoughts.

First Look:

The Fenix E12 V2.0 is a 160 lumen flashlight that carries a standard IP68 waterproof rating and while it doesn't boast an actual impact rating, the T6061 aluminum body will take a beating. In order to disippate heat and provide bright performance the lens is quite thin. This is likely why the light doesn't carry a full impact rating, but it certainly feels like it will stand up to some abuse - unless you smash the lens on a sharp or small object.

Fenix E12 V2.0 Profiel

The E12 comes with everything you need and expect from a high-quality Fenix light. A warranty card, quick-start guide, small brochure, lanyard, AA battery an extra o-ring seal are included. Only once in my life have I needed to replace an o-ring on a light, but a replacement wasn't included with that other brand and wasn't available as a spare part. Fenix takes care of you - both with a high-quality light, and the included replacement o-ring.

E12 Bundle

I love the clip that Fenix has included on this light as the "S-Clip" allows it to be clipped in a pocket lens-down as well as reversed to clipped on a hat, shirt-pocket or anything thin. This gives extra flexbility for using hands-free. It's a simple design that we've seen on a few different lights and it's nice that it is included on this one as well.

The Fenix E12 V2.0 is the new and improved version of one of the most loved Fenix EDC Flashlights. What makes the Fenix E12 V2.0 special? One of the critical updates is the included pocket clip, which was one of the most requested updates for a new version. As with most Fenix Flashlights, the E12 V2.0 is IP68 waterproof and rated with a durable A6061-T6 aluminum body and ultra-thin optical lens. Tail Switch

Operation:

The E12 V2.0 is pretty simple in operation. A full click on the tail switch cycles the power. Once the light is powered on, a half-press cycles through the output modes. Each time the light is turned on, it returns to the lowest ouput mode of 5 lumes which will get you an impressive 70 hours of runtime. A short press gets you up to 30 lumens and 12 hours of runtime. On high, the output maxes out at 160 lumens and should keep things nice and bright for an hour.

Throw distance and output is quite reduced on this light compared to something like the LD30, but the small size of the E12 makes it much more EDC friendly. Also the standard AA battery ensures that you'll have access to power just about anywhere in the world. The extra runtime and output of an 18650 battery are welcome, but the added size, charging requirements and limited access to replacement batteries is the tradeoff.

Final Thoughts:

I believe the E12 V2.0 AA EDC Flashlight is a true EDC light. It doesn't have the power or throw-distance of other larger tactical lights from Fenix, but the E12 is truly an easy light to carry. Some of the other EDC lights are a bit too large to carry every day in every situation. Sure, if you're all decked out in your tactical gear, or you have your bug-in or bug-out bag handy, they are easily carried, but that's not truly EVERY day carry.

I carry my LD30 almost daily, but it doesn't make the cut when I put on my suit for a graduation, wedding or for a business meeting. I don't always want to look like "Tactical Jack". The E12 solves this problem by being smaller while still providing more than enough power and distance for a light to get you through every single day.

Is it a perfect light for tactical situtions? Can it work for search and rescue?

Not even close.

Is it supposed to excel in these situations?

Negative.

Is it a great light to slip in your pants pocket, coat pocket, purse, glove box, laptop or tool bag for daily situations that include flat tires, finding stuff dropped in the black hole of your vehicle (between the seats) or finding the way up your sidewalk at night?

Absolutely.

Pretty much any day-to-day activity in today's modern world will show that this light will perform flawlessly and be more than adequate. If you need more, buy a bigger light. For $27USD, you really can't beat the power, quality, flexibility, price and usefulness of this light from Fenix.
