Today we'll be taking a look at the NetTalk Duo. This is the latest in VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) communications products from Nettalk.  If you turn on the television or radio for 5 minutes I'm sure you'll here some phone company claiming to have the lowest price on this and that, and all you have to do is sign a contract.  This contract that probably has a $300 early termination fee and after 6 months or a year later your introductory price will double.

I say "Stop! I don't want to hear anymore! Just give me something that works and is inexpensive."  The NetTalk Duo may be the answer to all of our problems. The NetTalk Duo costs only $69.95 and that is including a full year of phone calls in the United States and Canada.  This price lowers to $29.95 for each additional year.

Out of the box:

The first thing that caught my eye of the NetTalk Duo is it's unique shape. It is rectangular with a curved front, square back and rounded edges. It almost reminds me of a tiny exotic sports car. The ultra-high gloss black finish with the chrome accents gives it a low profile futuristic look as well. The NetTalk Duo is about the size of flip open cell phone and will take up almost no space on your desk.

  • Quickstart Guide

Setting up the NetTalk Duo is very simple and will only take about five minutes to complete.

The first thing you will notice is there is two ways you can setup up the NetTalk Duo. Setup one, the recommended setup, plugs directly into router. Setup two is you can plug it directly into an open USB port. I'm not going to worry about setup two because this setup requires you to download drivers and your computer must always be on to make and receive phone calls. It's a no brainer, setup one is the way to go.

So here we go. The gray Ethernet cable gets plugged into the "ETH" port on the back of the NetTalk device. The other end gets plugged into the router. I know, I know easy right? Now plug your home or office phone into the "TEL" port. Finally, plug the AC adapter into the mini USB port on the front of the NetTalk and we are almost done. Now go to to activate your product. You are given a numeric username and password to Log into the site. This step is necessary because you have to fill out some personal info like you street address so you are able to call 911 in case of emergencies. Also, you can choose your own phone number. How easy was that?

Phone calls are crisp and clear as you would expect from any phone service provider. The NetTalk Duo is also compatible with all services you would want from the phone company such as 911, 411, caller ID, call forwarding and call waiting to name a few.

The NetTalk Duo is a great product and if you need a main phone line or just want an inexpensive secondary line, the NetTalk Duo is definitely for you. I would have to say that the NetTalk Duo is the absolute best VOIP device on the market today. With all of it's features, sound quality, how easy it is to setup and how inexpensive the Duo is, How could you not want to go out and pick one up and give your phone company a piece of your mind.

I'm going to go ahead and score the NetTalk Duo 9.9/10. This is one of the best new devices on the market today.  It doesn't really follow the normal breakdown here at so we're not going to give a detailed score, simply a good list of Pros. vs. Cons.
